Special Events

The Inspiration Day:  In 1951 the fourth day of her annual Retreat, Mother, after  receiving Holy Communion during Mass was inspired to start a new religious Congregation on her own under the name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, with a view of helping the poor, evangelization and such works.

The Foundation Day:  With the permission of the Bishop of Tuticorin, Rt. Rev. Roche, and with the support of Fr. Navamony, in Azhagappapuram, the Pious Union of the Little Sisters of Jesus (now changed into the Congregation of the sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus) was started: 21.06.1952.

The Happy Day:  When Fr. Manikam was parish priest, the Blessed Sacrament, which had been taken away from the residence of the sisters, was once again put back there 07.12.1956.

The Joyous Day. When the first home for the children was started 07.08.1964.

The day of Expansion With the permission and blessings of the bishop of Kottar, Rt. Rev. Agnisamy and with the support of Fr. Antonymuthu, our field of ministry was extended to Kurusady on 29.10.1967.

In the presence of the Vicar General of Kottar diocese, Rev. Fr. Vilwarayar, at Kurusady, our first six sisters consecrated themselves to the Lord: 17.01.1968.

With the permission and blessings of the bishop of Vellore, Rt. Rev. Antonymuthu and with the help of Bro. Thomas SHJ, a new convent was started in Athipet in Jawathu Hills in Vellore diocese and it was blessed, and opened by no less a person than the Pope’s Delegate, Most. Rev. Luciano Storegaro on 11.10.1977.

As a souvenir of the silver Jubilee of our Pious Union, the bishop of Tuticorin, Rt. Rev. Ambrose inaugurated a new building at Azhagappapuram: 25.05.1978.

With the collaboration of Most Rev. Leonard SJ, the Archbishop of Madurai, our constitutions were framed for the first time: 06.06.1978.

With the approval and blessings of the bishop of Vellore, Rt. Rev. Antony Muthu, and through the ceaseless work of Bro. Thomas SHJ, the Pious Union of the Little Sisters of Jesus was re-named as the Pious Union of the Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and was accepted as such by Vellore Diocese on 03.12.1978.

With the blessings of the bishop of Vellore and with the help of Bro. Thomas SHJ, a new convent and a school were started in Susai Nagar in Vellore Diocese on 12.06 1979.

At Anaikarai in Tuticorin diocese, a Mercy Home for the physically handicapped and the mentally retarded was started on 17.09.1980.

Rt. Rev. Antonymuthu, the bishop of Vellore, who had been our patron and who had  helped us to grow a lot, goes to his eternal reward in heaven on 19.12.1980.

Through the efforts of the new bishop of Vellore Rt. Rev. Michael Augustine, in Susai Nagar, first formation house, our Novitiate was started on 10.05.1982.

Our first General Meeting is held in Kurusady in Kottar diocese, under the guidance of Mother Scholastica and our first councilors were elected on 25.05.1983.

 With the blessings of the bishop of Vellore, Rt. Rev. Michael Augustine and through the support of Fr. Xavier, the Novitiate Horse was built in Rangapuram, Vellore. It was blessed by the bishop himself on 13.12.1984.

Twenty one sisters take their First Vows in the newly approved Pious Union on 08.09.1985.

The younger sister of Mother Scholastica, who as Assistant Mother and councilor had been helping the General in many ways, Mother Margaret by name, was laid up in bed by paralysis on 06.08.1986.

Our Pious Union was accepted as a member of the C.R.I on 21.06.1987.

The Golden Jubilee of Mother Scholastica, the Foundress of our institute was celebrated in Rangapuram, Vellore, in a grant way on 06.12.1991.

The approval of the Pious Union as a religious institute was got from Roman Dicastery on 29.09.1992.

Our new constitutions were promulgated by the legitimate authority in 1993.

Through the prayers of Mother Scholastica, Sr. Rose who had earlier left our congregation, came back and joined us again on 28.05.1993.

Mother Scholastica, our Foundress, passes away and goes to her eternal reward in Heaven on 12.10.1993.

The bishop of Vellore, Rt. Rev. Chinnappa, issues his decree of erection of our Congregation as one of diocesan right that has got the papal approval, on 11.02.1994.

The book entitled, “Annaiyin Anmeegam” which describes the life and the spirituality of our Mother Foundress, and which will be the guidebook for all in our Congregation, was released on 12.10.1994.

“The trust of Mother Scholastica” was started with the blessings of the Superior General Sr. Selin Mary on 14.10.1994.

With the blessings of the bishop of Vellore, Rt. Rev. Chinnappa, the second General chapter was held in Rangapuram. In this Sr. Thangapushpam was elected as the Superior General on 03.12.1997.

Through the tremendous efforts of Sr. Selin Mary, the school in Soosai Nagar first became a High School and soon a Higher Secondary School in the year 1998-1999.

Mother Margaret was born in heaven as she passes away on 16.01.1999.

At the foot of the hill near Chenganatham, Vellore, in the place now called “Ithaya Nagar”, the Generalate House was completed and blessed by the bishop of Vellore, Rt. Rev. Chinnappa on 11.06.1999.

With a view to give thanks to God for all the good He had done and was doing to our Congregation of the sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus during the past fifty years 1952-2002, the Golden Jubilee was celebrated in a fitting manner at Kurusady in Kottar diocese on 17.05.2002.

Our congregation spreads beyond India, even to San Miniato diocese in Italy; a new convent was set up for our new ministry there in Castelfranco Parish on 25.08.2002.

On 3rd December, 2009, Rev. Sr. Annammal, whose Goodness, Mercy, Wisdom and Simplicity was witnessed by the sisters,  was elected as Mother General of the Congregation of the Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, the 3rd Successor of  Rev. Mother Scholastica, the Foundress of the congregation.

As the Mentally and Physically challenged children lacked basic requirements in the Home, Mother Annammal renovated and reconstructed the Home of Mercy, with all necessary requirements for the children, and the same was blessed on 12th June 2010, followed by thanksgiving Holy Eucharist by Rt. Rev. Yuvan Ambrose, the Bishop of Tuticorin.

To accomplish the primary mission of the Congregation, a new home was initiated on 8th July 2010 in Narkarunai Nagar, Vellore, especially for the orphan and poor children.

A new convent was opened in the remote and poor village called K.G. Kandigai, Chennai diocese, on 8th September 2010.

A construction with 6 guest rooms, in the premises of the Generalate, was accomplished on 02.02.2011 and inaugurated by benefactor Mr. Alan and blessed by Rev. Fr. Michael.

The Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, in the goal of reaching out the most marginalized people, entered in to a poorest village called Jetpura in Uttar Pradesh on 1st July, 2011.

The sisters started their ministry on 01.07.2011 in a village called Gagaran, which is situated in the Diocese of Varanasi, Gazipur district.

As a sign of blessing of God, our sisters were welcomed to work in the same diocese in another place called Sakhaldihaa on 1.11.2011, which is situated in the district of Chandauli, by the initiative of Rev. Fr. Victor Dennis and the Most. Rev. Bishop Raphy Manjaly accepted us to serve for the poor and the marginalized in the diocese of Varanasi.

It was a mile-stone in the life of the Congregation to convoke the first consultative Chapter on 3rd November 2011 at Ithaya Nagar, Chenganatham, and Vellore. Mother Annammal had healthy discussions on 5th November 2011 on the future of the Congregation with representatives of various commissions elected.

On 6th July, 2011, the sisters entered in to the divine service in Vellore diocese to serve in the cancer institute run by the Sneha Deepam priests.

The Diocese of Tuticorin invited the Congregation, for the Evangelization and Education of the poor people, living in and around the area of Vandanam in the diocese of Palayamkottai on 3rd January 2012.

On 3rd June, 2012, the sisters stepped in to a village called Vadakankulam in Tuticorin District, to impart the quality education to the village people and the children.

We serve the sick in a very special way through our Medical Care for the people in remote villages, where they have no access to medical centers and health facilities. (Cons 52) The Nursing College was inaugurated on 08.06.2012 in Dindigul, to prepare the sisters for the medical mission.

Being aware of the spiritual need in the heart of Italy, the new mission was established and extended in Italy, in the place called Velletri (in Velletri Diocese) on 30.11.2011.

The new mission was opened in San Felice a Cancello (in Acerra Diocese) on 09.09.2013, for Evangelical ministry.

A 3rd house was opened on 30.08.2014, in Gessate (in Milano Diocese) in Italy, especially for the kinder garden school & Evangelical Ministry.

On 29.08.2012, a new convent in Mitadharkulam, in the diocese of Tuticorin was opened for the mission of Education and the Evangelization.

The 60th year, Diamond Jubilee of the Congregation treading in the path of giving life to the lifeless was celebrated meaningfully in Azhagappapuram, on 15th January 2013.

The opening of the new house at Christu Nagar in the Diocese of Kottar marked one more mile-stone in spreading the good news to the poor and the marginalized. The house was inaugurated on 16th October 2013.

A  Mission was opened on 17.06.2014 in Tholayavattam, Kuzhithurai, mainly for the care of old age Mothers.

In the place called Pandravedu, a hostel was opened specially for boys and was opened on 26th June 2014.

Rev. Sr. Amutha Theos was chosen to be the 4th successor of Mother Scholastica, the Foundress of the Congregation of the Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus on 5th December, 2015.

The Solemn celebration of the inauguration of the centenary preparation celebration of very Rev. Annai Scholastica was held on 14.02.2016, in Azhagai, the diocese of Tuticorin, where the Congregation had its origin in the year 1952.

The marriage of the child of the Congregation Arul Mary was held on 6th July 2016.

The  grand celebration of centenary  year  of ANNAI SCHOLASTICA  was inaugurated  by  the MOST REV.JEROME DASS, the Bishop of Kuzhithurai, MOST REV.GEORGE RAJENDRAN ,BISHOP OF THAKKALAI, REV. FRANCIS  KALISHT, BISHOP OF MEERAT on 11.10.2016  at 5.30 pm in Pattarivillai, diocese of Kottar.

Decennial Celebration of Most Rev.Soundaraj, Bishop of Vellore was held on 31st June 2016.

To be the support and guide to the loneliness and oppressed, a boarding in Pandravedu for the children was inaugurated 9th June 2016.

The Bishop of Dindigul Diocese, REV.LAWRENCE PAUL SAMY, inaugurated the building of the hostel for Nursing College students in Dindigul with the heavenly blessings through the Eucharistic Celebration ON 27th July 2017.

PAPAL ORDER DECLARATION, CENTENARY CELEBRATION OF MOTHER SCHOLASTICA, CELEBRATION OF 40TH YEAR OF SERVICE IN THE DIOCESE OF VELLORE,  the Trinitarian function was celebrated on 25th October 2017 in Vellore.

The books on MUPERUM VIZHA MALAR, A MARCH TOWARDS THE MARGINALIZED, VIVILIYA MAMANIGAL. IDHAYA RANGAGAL….CD, was released on 25th October 2017.

The Bishop of Vellore diocese the Most Rev. Soundara Raju, announced the Papal Order of the Congregation on 25th October 2017.

Karunai Illam, in Veppedu in the diocese of Chelgalpattu, is a place of safety shelter and a school of quality education; it was opened on 7th November 2017.

Karunai Illam, in Athipet was opened on 8.11.2017 according to the Will of God. Rev.Fr. John Robert Vicar General of Vellore Diocese blessed the home with the presence and graces of the Almighty and was opened by Rev.Mother.Amutha Theos, Mother General.

The marriage of our child SUNI was held on 28th December, 2017,  in the presence of many sisters, whose hearts were filled with joy and happiness in seeing their child with her life partner.

A new convent was opened in a place called Firenze on 6th January, 2018, investing the hard work of the sisters that save lives, reduce poverty, strengthen the depressed, and helps people emerge from humanitarian crises.

A new convent was opened  in Periyasamypuram in the diocese of Tuticorin, on 1st of June, 2018, for the mission of Education, Evangelization and Social Service.

Happy Home in Pattarivillai for the orphan and abandoned children came in to existence on 2nd of September,  2018 and became a happy place for children to develop and grow in loving and protective hands of the sisters.

A new mission was started in a place called Christu Nagar in the diocese of Kottar on 3rd of September 2018.

our dear Foundress Mother Scholastica’s 25th heavenly birth anniversary, was celebrated on 14th October, 2018. It was this day, during the year 1993, the Holy Soul of our Mother, flew to her master Jesus Christ.

On June 23rd, 2019, the Congregation of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, was handed over with a new mission station at Berigai, from Servants of Mary Immaculate Trust, who were running, the mission for the past 10 years in this area for the most backward and neglected communities of Gypsies and Irulars.

A new formation house was opened in Kamarajapuram in the diocese of Chelgalpattu on 14th, August, 2018.

A new mission for HIV and TB patients was started and blessed by the Most Rev. George Anthony Swamy, the Arch Bishop of Chennai, in the diocese of Chennai on 6th September 2019.

One more blessing from the Lord to render the service of the Sacred Heart sisters, in serving the poor and the needy is a new house in Italy, in a place called Castellaneta opened on 14th September 2019.

The opening ceremony of the  new convent in Vadakankulam was held on 14th January, 2020, with the blessing of the Bishop of PALAYAKOTAI, THE MOST REV.ANTHONY SAMY SAVARIMUTHU and the convent was opened by REV.MOTHER AMUTHA THEOS, SUPERIOR GENERAL.

A Home for the Mentally and Physically challenged children was started in the place called Melravanthavadi, in the name of Annai Scholastica home on 27.2.2020.

Annai Scholastica Arts and Science College was opened in Thangachilmadam in Pamban Islands on 31st August 2020 and was blessed by the Most Rev. Susai Manikam, Bishop of Sivagangai and was opened by Rev. Mother Amutha Theos, the Superior General of the Congregation.

The new convent was opened by Mother Amutha Theos, the Superior General, on 13th December 2020 in Sakhaldihaa in Uttar Pradesh.

To welcome the girls aspiring to be a sister and to serve the poor, a formation house was built and was opened in Sakhaldihaa on 15th January, 2021 by Rev. Mother Amutha Theos, Superior General of the Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

On 12th September 2021, with the name of Sacred Heart dispensary, to serve the people of the village with a quality medical care with well qualified and experienced faculties, a dispensary was opened by Rev. Mother Amutha Theos and blessed by Rev. Fr. Arokia Dass.

A new convent was built and blessed by the Most Rev. Lawrence Pious, Bishop of Dharmapuri, on 15th of September 2021and was inaugurated by Rev. Mother. Amutha T     hoes, the Superior General of the Congregation in the place called Berigai in the district of Krishnagiri.

A new building for boys hostel in Nambikkai Illam in Vellore diocese was blessed by Rev. John Peter, the Administrator of Vellore Diocese and was inaugurated by Rev. Mother Amutha Theos, on 16th September, 2021.
