5TH General Chapter

25TH NOVEMBER 2015, SACRED HEART GENERALATE, VELLORE.

Rev. Sr. Amutha Theos, was chosen by the representatives to be a Mother, the 4th successor of Mother Scholastica, the Foundress of the Congregation of the Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus on 5th December 2015. Mother Amutha Theos, places herself with simplicity and profound awareness at the helm of the Congregation and walking in the foot prints of Mother Scholastica, looks to the future with hope and trust. The living faith of  Rev. Mother Amutha Theos,  moved her to see the face of Christ in the poor, the sick, orphans and devoted to them her time and love. Animated by faith, she gave herself and was concerned about the expansion of the Charism of the Congregation to the whole world in the service of the poor and the Marginalized and opened the way for number of missions in various places in Tamilnadu, North India and in Italy.

THE INAUGURATION OF THE CENTENARY PREPARATION CELEBRATION OF VERY REV. ANNAI SCHOLASTICA

The Congregation of the Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, were in the  sense of  gratitude and thankfulness  to the ALMIGHTY  GOD   in  preparing   themselves  for  the  centenary  celebration   of  ANNAI  SCHOLASTICA, the founder of  the Sisters  of   Sacred Heart of Jesus. The Solemn celebration was held on 14.02.2016, in AZHAGAI, the diocese of Tuticorin, where the Congregation had its origin in the year 1952.

            The gathering of the Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus rendered a warm welcome to the main celebrant of the Eucharistic, the Most REV.IVAN AMBROSE, the Bishop of Tuticorin, whose presence gave an abundant blessings to the Congregation.

      MOTHER SCHOLASTICA was a great legend and leader of the modern world, who left her foot path behind, to be followed by her sisters with the Charism of Preferential love and concern for the education and evangelization of the poor, abundant and marginalized people. She always had the zealous to give Jesus to the world through love and service. Her HEART was filled with the radiant love of the MOST SACRED HEART OF JESUS, which was like a magnet attracted by hundreds of the poor and needy people with compassion and mercy.

         Though physically invisible, the mother is always spiritually visible in her precious words, that, she often spoke with the love of Christ. Her teachings must echo not only in our Congregation, but it must reach to the entire world to bring the Heart of Jesus in all the hearts of the people. In this motive, a book named THENAGAM POTRUM DEVADHAI, written by REV.MOTHER AMUTHA TEOS, the Mother General of the Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, was published by the MOST REV. IVAN AMBROSE. This added an extra essence to the day of celebration.

MARRIAGE OF OUR CHILD, ARUL MARY

The sisters not only provide education, food and shelter to the abandoned children, but they show the right path to go on with their life .Yes, the sisters give a new life to live in fulfillment and completeness. Here is one of our inmates, who is cherishing herself in receiving the newness of life in the Holy Sacrament of Marriage. Arul Mary, who lost her confidence in the midst of her family and relatives, was one of the first inmates of the Congregation. Her life was full of miseries and difficulties, that she lost all her hope to proceed with her life.

CELEBRATION OF CENTENARY YEAR OF ANNAI SCHOLASTICA 

The  grand celebration of centenary  year  of ANNAI SCHOLASTICA  was inaugurated  by  the MOST REV.JEROME DASS ,the Bishop of Kuzhithurai ,MOST REV.GEORGE RAJENDRAN ,BISHOP OF THAKKALAI, REV.FRANCIS  KALISHT ,BISHOP OF MEERAT on 11.10.2016  in Pattarivillai, diocese of Kottar.

DECCINIAL CELEBRATION OF MOST REV.SOUNDARAJ, BISHOP OF VELLORE.

It becomes the responsibility and also the right to celebrate the shepherd always, especially to thank the Lord on his 10th year of Bishop Ship in the Diocese of Vellore. The Bishop accepted the invitation and visited the Institute in Vellore to share his joy and happiness with the Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. The sisters were very glad to welcome the beloved and dear Bishop to the celebration held on 31.10. 2016.

EXTENTION OF GENERALATE BUILDING

Here is another blessing among thousands of blessings of the almighty that the Generalate extension work was started on 11.02.2017 by the Vicar General of the Diocese of Vellore REV.FR.JOHN ROBERT with the prayer of blessings. REV.AMUTHATHEOS, MOTHER GENERAL and all other sisters of the congregation were present for this ceremony.

INAUGRATION OF BOARDING IN PANDARVEDU

The SACRED HEART HOME was blessed by VERY REV.FR.M.ARUL RAJ, VICAR GENERAL, ARCH DIOCESE OF CHENNAI and was opened by REV.MOTHER AMUTHA THEOS, MOTHER GENERAL on 9.6.2017.

The Eucharist was celebrated by   REV. FR. ARUL RAJ, along with other priests and offered the Mass in thanking and praising the Lord, for His Divine Providence of one more Home for the poor and abandoned children, where they may Educate themselves with the knowledge and wisdom, to understand the value of life and shape themselves to lead a meaningful life with the motherly love and care of the sisters.

HOSTEL IN NURSING COLLEGE

Mother Scholastica dedicated herself totally in the Education and the Evangelization, especially, for the poor and the marginalized. Following her footsteps, the Sisters, work hard in the field of Education to the students with the knowledge and wisdom to understand the values of life.

The Bishop of Dindigul Diocese, REV.LAWRENCE PAUL SAMY, inaugurated the building with the heavenly blessings through the Eucharistic Celebration. This is the sign, which says that, the Institution is not only student’s school or a college but it is a Home, where they can learn, live and love. The hostel is opened in the motive of providing a safe and secure food and shelter to the girls studying in the hostel. To motivate the students to develop a mind of service to the poor through their medical care especially in the poor villages. To bring hope in the life of sick people, in the times, when they lose hope due to their sickness.

The number three itself gives the sign of completeness and fulfillment. As the THREE PERSONS form the complete structure in the great mystery of Christianity, the three function celebrated on 25.10.2017 gave a complete and fulfilled frame to the Congregation of Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. The functions celebrated on the day are the sign of Gods Divine providence, protection and continues presence towards the congregation in its long journey of rendering service to the poor and marginalized.

KARUNAI ILLAM, VEPPEDU

Karunai Illam, in Veppedu in the diocese of Chelgalpattu, is a place of safety shelter and a school of quality education.  The sisters gave space to these little children to make a way for their brighter future through education. To make a provision for more comfortable staying place for the children, first floor was built and inaugurated on 7th November, 2017. Today, the children stay in Karunai Illam, receiving the love and concern from the sisters and prepare themselves to grow and shine in the future as a well as to be a formed citizens of the society.

KARUNAI ILLAM IN ATHIPET

Karunai Illam, in Athipet was opened on 8.11.2017 according to the Will of God. Rev.Fr. John Robert Vicar General of Vellore Diocese, blessed the home with the presence and graces of the Almighty and was opened by Rev.Mother.Amutha Theos, Mother General. The Eucharist was celebrated by Rev.Fr. John Robert, the diocesan administrator of Vellore, giving thanks to the Lord, for His abundant blessings upon the Congregation. The day was filled with joy and happiness as the village people also were present for the ceremony.

OUR CHILD’S MARRIAGE.

The marriage of our child SUNI was held on 28th December, 2017,  in the presence of many sisters, whose hearts were filled with joy and happiness in seeing their child with her life partner. The Congregation not only give a home and education to the orphan children, but the children are guided and supported although their life.

A NEW HOUSE IN ITALY

 A new convent was opened in a place called Firenze on 6th January, 2018, investing the hard work of the sisters, that save lives, reduce poverty, strengthen the depressed, and helps people emerge from humanitarian crises.

A NEW CONVENT IN PERIYASAMYPURAM

On the journey of enlightening the lives of the poor and neglected people of the society, God continuously, makes a way to tread on, in spreading the light of His Joy and Hope, among those who come on the way of the journey. A new convent was opened in Periyasamypuram in the diocese of Tuticorin, on 1st of June, 2018, for the mission of Education, Evangelization and Social Service. Education to all is the main focus of the mission in this place, creating and promoting the new values of life, putting the students in the position to develop the values for themselves.

HAPPY HOME, PATTARIVILLAI

The home came in to existence on 2nd of September, 2018 and became a happy place for children to develop and grow in loving and protective hands of the sisters. The happy home preferentially provides an ocean of happiness to the children along with food, shelter and space for play and leisure in a caring environment.  Happy home aims to meet the needs of children, who can’t live with their own families and respects children as individuals, and provides for their religious and cultural needs, encouraging them to keep their sense of personal identity and community.

CHRISTU NAGAR

One of our visions is to change the future of the children living in poverty through education. For this vision, a new mission was started in a place called Christu Nagar in the diocese of Kottar on 3rd of September 2018. The people who had only limited opportunities to further themselves, due to poverty and illiteracy, can vision about their brightened future receiving benignant love from the sisters serving selflessly for the well being of the society.

25TH YEAR CELEBRATION OF THE BIRTH OF MOTHER SCHOLASTICA IN HEAVEN

A gem of humility and simplicity, a compassionate heart of mercy and kindness, the eyes with brightened rays of love, a mother, more than any other mother in the world, a model of purity and holiness, a hope for the poor and the marginalized, our dear Foundress Mother Scholastica’s 25th heavenly birth anniversary, was celebrated on 14th October, 2018.

A NEW MISSION FOR GYPSY AND IRULAR COMMUNITIES

On June 23rd, 2019, the Congregation of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, was handed over with a new mission station at Berigai, from Servants of Mary Immaculate Trust, who were running, the mission for the past 10 years in this area for the most backward and neglected communities of Gypsies and Irulars. The new mission was blessed by the Most Rev. Lawrence Pious, the Bishop of Dharmapuri. The sisters were very happy to start this mission for the weakest section of the society, who is denied for their common rights.

FORMATION HOUSE IN KAMARAJAPURAM, CHELGALPATTU DIOCESE.

 To prepare the girls to form a revolution in the path of Christ, a new formation house was opened in Kamarajapuram in the diocese of Chelgalpattu on 14th, August, 2018. The Eucharist was celebrated in praising and thanking the lord for his abundant blessings for the building of the formation house in Kamarajapuram. The girls who were about to join the formation course of Aspirancy were seen with graceful face and joyful heart to be with the Lord and prepare themselves to be the true spouse of Christ.

MISSION FOR HIV AND TB PATIENTS

A new mission for HIV and TB patients was started and blessed by the Most Rev. George Anthony Swamy, the Arch Bishop of Chennai, in the diocese of Chennai. The sisters bring hope in the minds and hearts of the patients with their loving, consoling and comforting words, who suffer from the fear, shock, anxiety, depression, anger and frustration as soon as they are diagnosed with the disease HIV and TB. The clients come out of their fear and the sense of humiliation and live a normal happy life of hope by the committed service of the sisters.

OPENING OF NEW CONVENT IN CASTELLANETA, ITLAY

            One more blessing from the Lord to render the service of the Sacred Heart sisters, in serving the poor and the needy is a new house in Italy, in a place called Castellaneta. The joy and happiness of the sisters were doubled as the 4 Bishops from INDIA lightened the ceremony with their precious presence and blessings. The Bishops THE MOST REV.SUSAI MANIKAM, THE MOST REV.KALIST, THE MOST REV.EUGENE JOSEPH, THE MOST REV.NAZARENE SUSAI, who visited Rome for AD-LIMINA, accepted our invitation and made the function special and grand with their presence. All the 4 Bishops appreciated and congratulated Rev. Mother Amutha Theos and the sisters for their incomparable service towards the poor and the marginalized.

INAUGURATION OF ANNAI SCHOLASTICA HOME IN MELRAVANTHAVADI

The Sisters render wholehearted service seeing the image of GOD in each and every children and women in the Home, with full of  love and care filled in their heart. For the purpose of giving life to the lifeless, a Home for the Memtally and Physically challenged children  was started in the place called Melravanthavadi, in the name of Annai Scholastica home on 27.2.2020.

ANNAI SCHOLASTICA ARTS AND SCIENCE COLLEGE

  Annai Scholastica Arts and Science College is the another milestone reached by the Congregation in the successful mission of giving life to the lifeless and it is like our big dream come true. As the first motive of the Congregation is to deliver the best service to the poor and the marginalized in all the possible ways, the Arts and Science College constructed is also one of the source of extending the Educational service in preference to the poor students of the Srilankan refugees and fishermen communities, residing in Thangachimadam at Pamban Islands, who can’t afford for their Higher studies. The college was blessed by the Most Rev. Susai Manikam, Bishop of Sivagangai and was opened by Rev. Mother Amutha Theos, the Superior General of the Congregation.

A NEW CONVENT IN SAKHALDIHAA

A convent was a great demand of the sisters to do their mission of education and social service in the region of a poor and remote village in Varanasi Diocese called Sakhaldihaa. The new convent was opened by Mother Amutha Theos, the Superior General, on 13th December 2020.

FORMATION HOUSE IN SAKHALDIHAA

To welcome the girls aspiring to be a sister and to serve the poor, a formation house was built and was opened in Sakhaldihaa on 15th January, 2021 by Rev. Mother Amutha Theos, Superior General of the Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. The sisters mould and form the children in a beautiful shape to be offered in the altar of God in the vows of obedience, Chastity and Poverty.

KANANGADU

A dispensary was started with the love and concern by the Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, in a remote village called Kanangadu, in the diocese of Pondicherry on 12th September 2021, with the name of Sacred Heart dispensary, to serve the people of the village with a quality medical care with well qualified and experienced faculties.

A NEW CONVENT IN BERIGAI

            The sisters stepped in to the mission of this divine revolution to bring a change among these communities on 23rd June, 2019. The sisters succeeded to bring the children to the school, which is also a residential school, with the consent of the parents. For the sisters, who are dedicated and committed, a new convent was built and blessed by the Most Rev. Lawrence Pious, Bishop of Dharmapuri, on 15th of September 2021and was inaugurated by Rev. Mother. Amutha Thoes, the Superior General of the Congregation. The sisters are rendering a quality education to the children, along with food, shelter to stay safe and healthy to grow in to a person with principles and values.

A NEW RESIDING PLACE IN NAMBIKKAI ILLAM

The new building was blessed by Rev. John Peter, the Administrator of Vellore Diocese and was inaugurated by Rev. Mother Amutha Theos on 16th September, 2021. The children continue to learn and live in a happy and joyful atmosphere and grow in life values with moral principles and discipline.

A NEW MISSION IN CHIPPIKULAM

A new mission was initiated in a place called Chippikulam in the diocese of Tuticorin on 20th September, 2021. The sisters do their pastoral ministry binding the people in union and to prepare a way for a nurtured future upgrading with all the basic requirements, so that, they also may be given the equal rights in the society.

A NEW MISSION IN THIRUTTANI

 

The mission mainly focuses on the education in the school under administration of the diocese of Chennai. The initiation of the mission was held on 30th September, 2021. The diocese and the people of the village were very happy to welcome the sisters into their village to spread the Good news of love of Christ and make a difference in the living standard of the people.

 

THE CONGREGATION ACHIEVES ANOTHER MILESTONE WITH THE ERECTION OF PROVINCES.

St. Joseph Province in Azhagappapuram in the district of Kanyakumari under the leadership of Rev. Sr. Leema Rose, consists of 22 convents and 130 sisters in the diocese of Kottar, Kuzhithurai, Tuticorin and Palayamkottai. The province was canonically erected on 22nd January 2020 in the provincialate house in Azhagai.

St. Fatima Annai Province was erected on 29th February, 2020, in Assisipuram as its provincialate under the leadership of Rev. Sr. Jyothi. The province consists of 72 sisters and 16 missions doing their service in 7 dioceses of Kumbakkonam, Trichy, Tanjore, Dharmapuri, Chennai, Madurai, Dindigul and Bangalore.

St. Margaret Province in the diocese of Vellore was erected on 10th February, 2021 in its Provincialate, Ithaya Nagar. The province comprises of 18 mission centers in the diocese of Chennai, Vellore, Kadappa, and Pondicherry with 71 sisters. The Provincial Re. Sr. Lourdhu Mary lead the province in the path of Mother Scholastica and help the sisters to work in missionary spirit in giving life to the lifeless.
